The Pause Between Who I Was and Who I’m Becoming
The Knowing
There comes a quiet moment in a woman’s life when she realizes she has been running on borrowed energy. It usually shows up in an ordinary place, like the kitchen sink or during a drive home from somewhere she barely remembers being. She notices her body is moving, her mind is planning, her day is happening, yet she feels strangely absent inside her own life.
She has been powered by responsibility for so long that she mistakes exhaustion for normal. She knows how to be dependable, collected, competent, but somewhere along the way she drifted from the softer parts of herself. The parts that once laughed easily, rested without guilt, dreamed without permission.
Then something stirs. It is never loud. It begins as a small tug in the chest, a whisper that rises during quiet moments, a feeling that something inside her wants to be met again. She remembers flashes of the woman she used to be, the one who felt deeply and knew her own rhythm before the world layered expectations on top of her.
Becoming rarely arrives with drama.
It begins in the pause between who you were and who you are slowly turning into.
The Becoming
That in-between space has a name. It is liminality, the threshold where the old is loosening and the new has not yet taken full shape. It feels confusing because you are standing between identities. You are outgrowing a life that once fit you, yet you have not stepped fully into the one that is waiting.
Many women mistake this pause for failure. They think slowing down means they are slipping. They worry that stillness means they are falling behind. That discomfort comes from a lifetime of being taught to value endurance over ease, doing over being, surviving over listening.
But the pause is not punishment.
It is preparation.
This is where your inner self begins rearranging everything. Your strength reorganizes itself. Your truth starts to rise again. Your desires surface in small, honest ways. You begin noticing the tiny moments of hunger for something more, the sudden sensitivity to things that no longer feel right, the surprising softness that appears when you let yourself stop performing.
The pause is not empty.
It is sacred.
It is the space where your becoming begins its quiet work.
The Rise
Take one slow breath today, one that belongs only to you. Not for your roles, not for anyone’s expectations, not to prepare for the next thing on your list. Just yours. It may feel small, but this is how becoming begins. The body remembers before the mind can make sense of it.
You are not lost. You are aligning.
You are not stuck. You are softening.
You are not behind. You are being prepared.
This moment is not an ending.
It is a doorway.
Something in you is getting ready to unfold.
Trust the pause.
Your becoming has already begun.
